Success Really IS Possible In DTLV

I blog on a site geared toward other massage therapists from time to time. Today was my last day at my *other* job at a Vegas resort spa, and I wrote all about it here.

My transition to self-employment wouldn’t have been possible without your support. From the bottom of my heart: thanks a million. ❤

The Downtown Round Table

Back in 2013 when Feetish Spa Parlor first hit the scene, business was S-L-O-W. Very few people knew Feetish existed, as it took time for word of mouth to travel and internet keywords to work their magic. Back in those days I had time. Time to sit in my office, time to make coffee in the Keurig for friends, and time to plot, plan and gossip. When a friend (new or old) was in the neighborhood, it wasn’t uncommon for them to stop by my office for a visit and a chat. It was also pleasantly common for multiple, unrelated friends to stop by during the same window of time — I’d introduce the newcomer to everyone else in the room, and the conversation would continue as if we’d all known each other for years. Now that business has taken off and I’m performing spa services daily (yay!), the visits have become less frequent, and (although I’m thrilled with and grateful for the business that allows me to pay my bills and eat) I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss those chats and introductions every now and again.

Once, while I was hosting an impromptu gab session at Feetish, my friend Thom compared me to Dorothy Parker and my office setup to New York’s Algonquin Round Table. This was flattering to say the least — as my parlor furniture was procured primarily from the House of Target and my witticisms are usually bound to the realm of scatological humor — but I took the compliment to heart and filed it away for future reference.

Conveniently, the future is now! The time for chatting has returned! Only this time, through the use of 21st century technology, we can all relive each glorious gossip fest over and over from the comfort of our own homes. Enter The Downtown Round Table!

Held monthly (at the bare minimum), The Downtown Round Table will feature yours truly and one or two other folks who work and/or reside in Downtown Las Vegas. We’ll chat about stuff we hope you’ll find interesting, and we’ll upload each episode to the Feetish Spa Parlor YouTube channel. Please feel free to view, comment and share.

Thanks for being here! Until next month…

Is There a Plague Doctor in the House?

I have more photographers in my life right now than I’ve ever had before  (and coming from a girl born and bred in Rochester, NY — home of George Eastman and Kodak — this is saying a lot). Primarily, I attribute this to being surrounded by a multitude of camera-obsessed creative types in DTLV. (And to be clear, this is a good thing.)

A few months back, my talented camera-savvy friend Lucky suggested we tackle a photo shoot featuring any theme I chose. It took me a few weeks, but after much contemplation and inspiration by way of shared Buzzfeed links featuring “21 Creeptastic Photos You Wish You Could Un-See”, I had it: Pin Up Plague Doctor!

Pin Up Plague Doctor was perfect on so many levels: no need for pretty hair styling, flawless makeup application, or facial expressions that appeared to be even remotely inviting. I already had a few wardrobe items in my possession that would do the trick, and frankly, any excuse to hunt for additional shiny black fashion accessories is a valid one in my book.

We knew we’d be shooting indoors and weighed our studio options. Something grungy, raw, spooky and plague-y. Oh! A certain freight elevator located in a prominent DTLV building! Perfection!

Some friends lent some skulls to use as props, and I got to work building my first mask ever. One USPS priority shipping box (large), one yard of elasticized crushed velvet, and a roll of black duct tape later — BAM! POW! — an adequate plague-resistant beak had been fabricated with minimal injury.

Lucky was incredibly fun to work with, and he made me feel super comfortable (well, as comfortable as one can be in 7″ platform boots and a steel boned corset) during the entire shoot. His contact info follows these photos, so if you’re looking for a photographer for any type of work, get in touch. His fashion and special event photography projects in particular are always awe inspiring.

Also, these photos are all Lucky Wenzel and Andrea Lipomi. Don’t go stealing them or taking credit for them, mmmkay?

Without further ado, I bring you Pin Up Plague Doctor!

Crazy shadows!

(I’ve also decided my Pin Up Plague Doctor getup doubles as appropriate crime fighting gear, so if you’re ever in need of the ass-kicking Black Plague, you’ll know where to find her.)

Local businesses where you can buy items worn during this shoot:

The Black Room (gloves, crop, latex mask) – Tell Tara and Franz that Andrea at Feetish sent you. They are the sweetest German fetish shop folks you’ll ever meet!

Bad Attitude Boutique (corset) – I first discovered them when they were selling their wares at the Vegas Star Trek Convention. I believe this year you can expect them to offer a Borg Queen corset, complete with LED lights!

Black Cat Costumes (hat) – They even have a cute, friendly kitty who helps run the shop. His name is Danzig. 🙂

Bettie Page Footwear (boots) – Located at the Downtown Container Park. Unfortunately, I don’t think they have a website up yet.

Indiego…GOAL!

Just the other day with 22 days left to go, Feetish Spa Parlor’s Indiegogo goal was met and beaten! A million thanks to everyone who contributed, shared, or said a positive thing to me about the whole nail salon idea. Seriously, this wouldn’t have been possible without you. ❤

Thank you, friends!

Thank you, friends!

I’m going to continue to share the campaign for the remaining three weeks, because the Trek portion of the video still entertains me beyond belief. (Shout out to my pal Geoff Carter of DTLV.com fame for working his video magic. Well done, Captain!)

If you’re stuck in YouTube overdrive, please check out my Indiegogo rhetoric on this recent Massage Nerd Show appearance, and on this even more recent Downtown Podcast segment with Mack Holiday. Incidentally, Mack studies holidays and noticed the gross injustice inflicted upon nail techs everywhere with the absence of any sort of nail care holiday. So we invented one!

April 25th is the final day of Feetish’s Indiegogo campaign, hence we’ve dubbed it “National Mani/Pedi Day”! In honor of this sacred holiday, and as a token of my appreciation to the community who supports these crazy ideas in my head, I will be hosting a casual open house (with treats!) at Feetish on the 25th. Stay tuned!

Shiny Boots of Leather

My ebay Doc Martens are thanking me profusely, now that I’ve finally visited Flonzo at A Cut Above The Rest barbershop! Located on Carson Ave. in Downtown Las Vegas, you’ll find the resident shoeshine expert working his magic behind a beaded curtain in the back of the shop. I’m not kidding when I tell you $5 (plus tip!) has never brought this quasi-goth feetishist so much joy.

Gettin’ Perky with Indiegogo

Feetish Spa Parlor will be offering natural nail manicures and pedicures this spring! Here’s your chance to have a bit of fun (nail goddesses willing!) while helping the process along.

Please check out my Indiegogo campaign here, and know that I greatly appreciate any and all forms of support: tweets, Facebook shares, contributions, and kind words. There are some pretty awesome perks available to contributors, including many services you’ve already come to rely on from Downtown Las Vegas’s best little 140-square-foot day spa.

Thanks in advance, you wonderful people, you. ❤

Being Neighborly: Geoff the Accountant

I first met Geoff Geever at Feetish Spa Parlor’s Holiday Karaoke Brie Feast this past December. In a matter of minutes, my new 2nd floor neighbor had won the hearts of every comic book geek in attendance with his appreciation for the fiction of Neil Gaiman, and for his Superman socks (with attached capes). It was at this moment that Geoff was officially declared The Most Awesome CPA In All The Land.

Geoff works for RWCo CPAs. He’s quite hilarious, and from what I can deduce, pretty damn good at doing taxes. His office is right down the hall from me. You two should meet.

An Anniversary Thank YOU!

I probably should’ve posted this earlier, if only to let you guys know there would be an unlimited supply of leftover Valentine’s Day chocolate in my office all day, and that you really ought to help me devour it. But at any rate, four large boxes of rejected holiday candy later, I can say I made it through Feetish Spa Parlor’s first anniversary with a huge grin on my face.

So thank you! Thank you for buying incense and soap and perfume oils; for seeking out your Dermalogica skin care products in the most unlikely building in town; for trusting me enough to allow yourselves to be locked in a dark room with a slightly odd spa nerd for extended periods of time; for seeing value in what I do; and for being the appreciative, adventurous, supportive, amazing people who make it possible for me to do all this great stuff and enjoy every minute of it.

Love,

Andrea

For you. Thanks.

For you. Thanks.
